Hala Salem is an Art Director, Illustrator, Photographer and Contributor whose images and articles have appeared in magazines such as Elle Decor, Harper's Bazaar Arabia, Vogue, Style.com Arabia among others.
Her list of credits includes collaborations with some of the most respected brands in the industry like Luisa Via Roma, Aquazzura, the Coveteur, Reckitt Benckisser, Clarins, Lacoste to name a few.
In September 2017, the Parisian company Pierre Frey who has designed and manufactured some of the most coveted textiles and wallpaper in the world, launched " SONORA ", a hand-printed design by Hala inspired by her Arizona regular trips and her fascination for luxurious vegetation.
To create her colorful illustrations and pattern designs, she works in traditional and digital medium. Her style mixes several techniques, combining old-school processes such as painting and hand-drawing with modern digital tools.
Born in Beirut, raised in Paris, Hala graduated in Graphic Design and Advertising at Academie Charpentier.
After working as Art Director in advertising she moved to London for a few years and when she got back decided to strike out of her own and created a successful portfolio.
In 2005 her creative and entrepreneurial spirit made her launch " Graphik Candies " a decorative line of wall decals, it was, at the time one of the first in France. Rapidly her brand is sold in the Capital's triendiest spots : Le Bon Marché, Palais de Tokyo, Colette, and various Concept stores.
With her distinctive style and colorful art, Hala Salem is best known as the "It-Girl Illustrator" and was nominated among in Harper's Bazaar Arabia Best Dressed list.
